The book provides information on the utilization of solar energy for heating and cooling of buildings and electrical power generation. The book is based on actual experience and references material taken from published technical reports and briefings, conference papers, and Rockwell International Space Division news reports. The manuscript describes the application of space electrical power. The SPS would reduce ground area requirements for a 5000 megawatt satellite system requiring a ground receiving rectenna approximately 10 x 13 kilometers (32 acres) compared to an equivalent ground based solar power system requiring approximately 149, 850 acrea.
