Today Piero della Francesca is considered important not only from the viewpoint of art history, but becaus of his innovations in design and perspective, his control of light and atmosphere, and his theoretical writings, especially on perspective. And Roberto Longhi's criticism of his painting has become widely accepted: "a syntheses in perspective of form and color."
