Transportation problems in rapidly growing urban areas were discussed by a group of sixty men meeting at the National Academy of Sciences in September 1961. the subject was how research could be employed to aid in their solution. 5 panels were formed to debate the major issues of research into: land use, personal desires, economic impacts, public programs and urban government as affected by and as affecting transportation. At a second general session, they reported back their findings, and met again in January 1962, to hear the preliminary report which had been drafted. The five panel reports are discussed.
