Intending to write a paper on Indian folk medicine, Tom Benedict contacts Granny Blow, an elderly medicine woman of the Chickahominy tribe, and her apprentice, Luney. As Tom and Luney learn about the Chickahominy ways, Luney is also drawn to a stylish black woman and her followers. Does Luney's subsequent disappearance have anything to do with the mysterious woman? Tom and Granny Blow try to find the answer.
