It addresses the history of printing, identifies the tools ofthe trade, and explains methods of composition (typesetting), imposition (printing), and proofreading. It also provides observations and recommendations about how a print shop should operate, the functions of the foreman, the press operators, and the warehouse. To a limited extent, the book addresses orthography (spelling) and usage. It discusses how to copyright materials and defines technical terms used in the printing trade.
