Kirkus Review: This is perfectly delightful reading, original, subtle, and consistently entertaining. The heroine is Julia, a gentle wanton, florid, common, aging fast -- who goes to visit her daughter for the first time in twenty years, having left her in the more dignified cars of her grandparents. The purpose of the visit is to see that she does not marry a charming wastrel, whom Julia unfortunately recognizes as ""her sort"", unsuited to her daughter's sedate and all too worthwhile nature. The entry of an elderly peer, Sir William, complicates Julia's emotional difficulties as well as the family problem -- but all is worked through satisfactorily. An intriguing set of characters, a novel situation, handled deftly and with great humor.
