This is an exceedingly important and timely book. It tells the story of freedom of speech and press in this country through March, 1941. It deals with the problem of legislative policy, administrative practice, and constitutional interpretation raised by federal and state restrictions on speech and press, and brings to their examination accurate scholarship, keen legal analysis, and something of the fire of the evangelist. The book is not "objective" to the point of regarding the desirability of a generous protection of free speech and press as an open question. The author believes that such protection is imperative. -- from http://www.jstor.org (Feb. 19, 2016).
